With my parents-in-law living in Mexico, we try to fill up on the delicious tacos around the corner from their house. Since my first experience with those tacos, I've been on the search for something comparable to the true Mexican yumminess that is a taco.
Hubby and I recently visited Taco Riendo on University Avenue. It recently moved into the old Winger's (you know, the big silver building) after outgrowing its spot at a gas station on the State St. hill. I was happy to see they had the whole menu in both English and Spanish. I want authentic, but it doesn't help much when you can't understand what you're ordering.
You ordered at the counter and then found yourself a table. A nice touch was that they brought you chips and a tasty salsa while you wait for your food.
I ordered an Al pastor burrito which is the pastor pork, beans, rice and the typical burrito fillings for just under $5. My husband decided to go more traditional and ordered a couple of Al pastor and carne asada tacos that came with meat and cilantro for $1.50 each. They had a nice little selection of onions, cilantro (musts for the tacos), and a large variety of sauces.
Out of our three different types of items, my favorite was the burrito. It was large and so filling I wasn't able to eat the whole things. Husband liked the carne asada tacos loaded with all of the toppings.
Overall, Taco Riendo was a good place for Mexican. While we'll probably go back occasionally, we probably won't be regulars. I guess I have to continue on my taco search.
